Foundation Committees
The AALAS Foundation offers research advocates several opportunities to utilize their time and talents to advance public understanding, respect, and support for laboratory animal science.
Serving on a Foundation committee is a great way to advance laboratory animal science. Below are a few of the ways you can help. Please contact the Foundation office if you're interested in helping out!
Branch Relations Committee
Are you passionate about public outreach? Are you involved in a local AALAS branch? If so, the Branch Relations Committee is a great fit for you!
Here are just some of the committee's responsibilities:
• Inspires increased involvement from AALAS branches and districts
• Serves as AFBOD ambassadors at branch and district meetings
• Promotes public outreach projects to AALAS community
• Helps implement nationwide public outreach efforts at local and regional levels
• Generates financial support for Foundation public outreach efforts
National Meeting Committee
Do you regularly attend the AALAS National Meeting? Are you interested in ensuring the Foundation has successful events at the National Meeting? If you answered "yes" to both questions, join the National Meeting Committee!
Here are just some of the committee's responsibilities:
• Coordinate and generate enthusiasm for Silent and Live Auction at the NM
• Volunteer to promote AALAS Foundation in the NM booth
• Coordinate volunteers to thank Foundation supporters with exhibits at the National Meeting
• Plan and execute Appreciation Reception to recognize past donors
• Generate financial support for Foundation public outreach efforts
Projects Commiittee
The Projects Committee oversees the development and distribution of the Foundation's public outreach products and programs. The committee has several subcommittees, each focusing on different Foundation resources.
Kids 4 Research
Make the Kids 4 Research website more appealing to young people by enhancing existing content and incorporating interactive features into the site
AALAS Learning Library
Develop and promote educational programs on the AALAS Learning Library, including:
• Vocational High School Program
• Public Outreach Course
• Frogs Course
Interactive Resources
Generate interactive resources for the AALAS Foundation family of websites, including
• Video Interviews
• Social Media
• Mobile Phone Application
Traditional Outreach Materials
• Review existing AALAS Foundation brochures, posters, and flyers
• Identify ways to develop and distribute existing resources to teachers and students
• Redevelop outdated resources and develop new public outreach products, including
Whyville
• Oversees the development of games, activities, and informational brochures in the Whyville Community Animal Research Environment
AREA Program
• Coordinates the Animal Research Education and Awareness program at the National Meeting
• Encourages local branches to conduct the AREA Program
Serving on a Foundation Committee
• Committees typically meet on a quarterly basis via teleconference
• Meetings last no more than one hour
• Volunteers are expected to provide suggestions and contribute time outside of meetings to advance the objectives of the Foundation
